2016 Election Season Letter
We thought it was important to send a mailing to all SF agents prior to the election. This election is unlike any we have ever experienced. The Presidential race is experiencing one of the nastiest campaigns in history!
What we are really concerned about is the down-ballot voting that may impact our state and how we do business. We are enclosing a copy of a note that highlights a horrendous bill that was presented last year by the Department of Commerce and our Commissioner, Mike Rothman. We were able to stop the bill last year in the Senate Commerce Committee and the bill did not make it to the House (where we believe we had adequate representation to stop it).
The Commissioner has vowed to present the bill again in the 2017 session. He has enlisted an insurance activist from California and is telling everyone that after this election he is confident he will have the votes in the Legislature. He is also confident the governor will agree with him.
This past year we have traveled across the state meeting with legislators on both sides of the aisle. We support those who are pro-insurance and pro-business. We have been working especially hard to keep the House under Speaker Daudt’s control. The bottom line is divided government has worked in the past and works for us.
What are we asking for? We want you to spread the word that this may be the most important state election in our careers. It would be devastating to our industry if we lose the House.
If you are a member of the North Star SFAA-PAC, we thank you. If you are not, we are asking you to join. We are working diligently to preserve the great opportunity that State Farm has given us. We need more members and more contributions as we are continually asked to help legislators who support good business in our state. As the largest insurance company in the state we have less than 15% of the agents in the PAC. Those that are in the PAC support it very generously and we have forged great relationships with the leaders on both sides of the aisle. We have stopped bad legislation and promoted good legislation.
Please feel free to contact any of us about how to join the PAC or the specific work we have done this year.
Thank you,
Joan Roisum, President
Mike Nelson, Treasurer
Colin Charlson, VP Membership
